Family Rosary Crusade 2011 in San Francisco in October

The 50th anniversary of the Family Rosary Crusade in San Francisco will be commemorated on October 15, 2011 at San Francisco’s Civic Center Plaza. In October 1961, Fr. Patrick Peyton’s Rosary Rally drew over 550,000 people (Catholics and non-Catholics) to the Polo Fields at Golden Gate Park (see video from event here). It marked one of the largest gatherings in this history of San Francisco. On October 15th the event will be commemorated with a rosary rally that will take [...]

Matt Maher’s The Spirit and the Bride

There’s less than a month to go until the release of Matt Maher’s new album, The Love In Between. In June, Matt gave an In Between The Songs look at his new single “Turn Around” (now available on iTunes). In this recent behind-the-music video, Matt shares the thoughts behind his new song, “The Spirit and the Bride.” Revelation 22:17: The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” And let everyone who hears say, “Come.” The Love In Between hits stores on [...]

Book Review: The Betrayal of Charity by Matthew Levering

The Betrayal of Charity: The Sins that Sabotage Divine Love by Matthew Levering (Baylor University Press, 225 pages, August 1, 2011) It is always refreshing to read from a young theologian bringing new perspectives and exploring topics in a new light. Matthew Levering certainly does not  disappoint with his newest theological work, and recent Patheos Book Club pick, The Betrayal of Charity: The Sins that Sabotage Divine Love. In bringing together the works of contemporary theologians and scholars in other [...]

Music Review: Your Time By Sarah Kroger

Your Time by Sarah Kroger (2011) Once in a while a song pops up that makes one sit up and take notice. For me, those songs are usually lyric-driven and reach to the very core of me. I love songs with depth in the words and interpretation. Anyone can write or sing a song, but not just anyone can really make a song mean something, especially the first time a listener hears it. A few weeks ago, I heard a [...]

Book Review: Mysteries of the Jesus Prayer by Norris J. Chumley

Mysteries of the Jesus Prayer:  Experiencing the Presence of God and a Pilgrimage to the Heart of an Ancient Spirituality by Norris J. Chumley (208 pages, HarperOne, April 5, 2011) Last month I wrote about Mysteries of the Jesus Prayer, a fine documentary film about the Eastern Orthodox prayer practice of the Jesus Prayer. Shortly after that review, I had the opportunity to read the book that was released in tandem with the film. Like the film, this book is [...]

Still Love My Enemies by Ooberfuse (Music Review)

God calls us each to a unique ministry. For British Catholic band Ooberfuse it comes in the form of electro-pop music that spreads the message of the Gospel. I admit that prior to the Pope’s visit to the UK last year I hadn’t heard any of Ooberfuse’s music. Thankfully, having their Heart’s Cry chosen as the official youth anthem of the UK visit helped them gain the notice of several UK news outlets—both mainstream and Christian. Who else can use [...]

Of Broken Strings and Conversion

Well, I’ve been posting up quite a bit about Matt Maher lately. He just keeps popping up and sharing a little bit of himself with all of us each day. Two days ago, Matt posted a new video up on his YouTube channel. The video is a reflection on conversion, repentance, and being able to turn back to Jesus no matter how far we’ve strayed. God’s grace gifts us with the ability to “turn around.” It is a nice preview [...]

Matt Maher’s New Single – “Turn Around”

Last week I wrote about the September 20th release of Matt Maher’s third studio recording. Today, Provident Label Group announced some exciting news about the release and Matt’s touring efforts in the upcoming months. K-Love recently released a video recording of Matt’s new single “Turn Around”–three weeks before the single’s July-release on iTunes. “Turn Around” is a fine song that deals with the themes of pain, loss, desperation, grace, redemption, and love. Another great song from Matt. Enjoy.
